Jakob’s Webnet is a mesh or netting material created from woven stainless-steel wire strands. It is a remarkably versatile material for the creation of commercial barriers, screens and facades.
While Webnet is lightweight and translucent in appearance, it is actually incredibly robust and has excellent longevity and weather resistance.
Not all Webnet is the same though – there are several varieties of Webnet to choose from. Here is a rundown of the four types of Webnet and how they can be utilised.
1. Webnet with sleeves
This is the standard type of Webnet mesh, formed from stainless steel wire rope and held together with specially-made stainless-steel sleeves. There is a choice of wire configurations and wire sizes ranging from 1mm to 3mm. Aperture-opening sizes range from 20mm to 400mm and can be formed into custom shapes.
Standard Webnet is an idea choice where cost efficiency is required. Here’s how it is used:
- Footbridge barriers – e.g. for unobtrusive fall protection and anti-throw screens on pedestrian and cycle bridges .
- Atrium barriers – Webnet’s large span size means it can be used to make full-height transparent barriers for multi-storey atriums in commercial and educational buildings.
- Facades – the trellis-like structure of Webnet makes it ideal for commercial green and artistic wall facades on residential towers and education and office buildings.
- Carpark and balcony barriers – the mesh can be used to create multistorey structure barriers which can also double-up as green facades if desired.
2. Webnet without sleeves
This Webnet product is much the same as standard Webnet but without the sleeves. It appears even lighter and more translucent, and the lack of sleeves reduces light reflection.
Sleeveless Webnet can be used for:
- Protective nets – e.g. for rooftop sports courts or catch-screens on bridges .
- Animal enclosures – the material’s flexibility and strength make it ideal for zoo enclosures .
- Sports and games – such as to create protective barriers in sporting venues or ball catch / ball stop nets.
- Internal staircases – the material is ideal where you want a near-transparent staircase balustrade that allows in natural light.
3. Webnet EVO
This is the latest addition to the Webnet family. EVO offers a variety of complex shapes that are less uniform across panels than standard Webnet.
EVO comes as sleeved Webnet but the spaces between sleeves are more varied which allows for the creation of organic and wavelike shapes. It can be used for:
- Enhancement of plain walls – such as in the case of the entrance area wall surfaces at Jakob Switzerland.
- Interior room partitions – Webnet partitions allow for an alternative solution to solid internal walls. And where Webnet EVO is used, the unique patterns can make the screens into a design feature in their own right.
- General Webnet architecture – EVO can be used in similar ways to standard and non-sleeved Webnet but with the added touch of more complex patterns.
4. Webnet ID
Webnet ID is standard Webnet with the addition of metal plates that can be arranged to create mosaic-like artworks and to communicate corporate messages. It can be used for:
- Outdoor billboards – e.g. for company advertisements or community messages.
- Display of corporate colours or logos – the plates can be coloured according to company colours or arranged to display a logo .
- Public artworks – such as decorative or story-telling murals.
Mix and match!
One of the great things about Webnet is the way it can be adapted from one project to the next. So while examples have been provided above for each material, they are not necessarily restricted to the projects listed and can in many cases be used interchangeably.
