Webnet mesh can be used to provide a dividing line or partition between spaces where solid barriers are not desired, or in cases where they are not an option.
The material is made from 316-grade stainless steel wire, making it very durable and strong, while being remarkably pliable at the same time.
It’s also very versatile. For example, the mesh can be stretched between posts, wrapped around structures to create discreet safety barriers, or made to conform to just about any shape you want. In this way, it can be used to simultaneously create separate spaces and provide fall protection while allowing plenty of natural light to filter through.
Here are two examples of how webnet mesh can be used.
Acute House – creating a sense of space and privacy
Acute House is a rebuild of an old tumbling-down weatherboard cottage in Albert Park Melbourne, on a triangle-shaped site 48m 2 in size.
Despite the remarkably small area, the finished rebuild is way beyond the average ‘tiny house’ you might expect. In fact, it provides 140m 2 of living space – a feat achieved through the award-winning multi split-levelled design of the architects (OOF! Architecture)
Webnet mesh contributes to the design by providing fall protection and a sense of space separation, while allowing for plenty of natural light, openness and circulation throughout. For example, 100mm aperture mesh was utilised to create space barriers and protective safety shields for the staircase, balcony and windows, in effect blurring the lines between inside and out.
School of design – creating safe, stylish space
Webnet mesh is a major feature of the five-storey atrium in the University of Melbourne’s School of Design building. This complex project involved the use of more than 1,200m2 of mesh and four kilometres of cabling. The webnet mesh was chosen to provide discreet fall protection throughout the atrium, without disrupting airflow and sight lines, or dominating the light and airy space. As well as offering a practical safety solution, the mesh forms a stylish and elegant design element.
If you have a project in mind that requires the creation of separate spaces without solid barriers such as internal walls, webnet mesh might be the solution you are looking for. Feel free to get in touch with our team for a discussion.
